Despite the recent poor weather, our Facilities Team have spent the first two weeks of our closed season getting stuck into their busy programme of winter works.

At the far end of our line at Glory Mine, a large quantity of old rail that was replaced last winter has been moved down site to tidy the area. Aloft our overhead team have been conducting a post season inspection of maintenance priorities, replacing some worn items and fitting a new lightning arrestor!

In our two substations, new equipment to allow a radio interlink and safety interlocking of the DC power supply is being installed and tested.

Alongside these works, our major trackwork project involving the relaying of the double track from Victoria Park to the blue staff post has commenced. The rails of the northbound line have been lifted and preparatory works underway to dig out the old sleepers and ballast.

As you can see, we don’t get a chance to relax when the tramcars get put away for winter! For information on how to get involved, please visit the volunteering section of our website: https://www.tramway.co.uk/volunteering/
