This August Bank holiday weekend, visitors to Crich Tramway Village may be forgiven for thinking they’ve arrived in turn-of-the-century Blackpool.
The UK’s No.1 seaside resort is famous for its Tower, its piers, its roller-coasters and of course its trams which have been transporting generations of holidaymakers along the Golden Mile for 125 years.
Now Crich Tramway Village is celebrating the 125th anniversary of the Blackpool Tram with a bank holiday weekend packed with tram rides and traditional seaside entertainment.
Event organiser Laura Greaves said, “On Sunday 29th and Bank Holiday Monday 30th August, visitors will be able to ride on different Blackpool trams, take part in family seaside craft activities and face painting. There will be a George Formby tribute act, Punch and Judy shows and seaside themed menus in Rita’s Tearoom and the Red Lion pub.
“The August Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday is also our annual Transport Extravaganza. There will be hundreds of vehicles on display and on the move. Everything from classic sports cars and motorcycles, double deck buses and even steam traction engines. There will also be lots of trade stands to browse around.”
“The Blackpool Bank Holiday Extravaganza is set to be one of the highlights of our events calendar this year. The sight of hundreds of vintage cars and lorries on the move mingling with the trams in a period street is unique to Crich and the Blackpool theme this year is sure to be a big hit with visiting families.”

Crich tramway Village has three Blackpool trams which give visitors rides along the recreated period street. There are a further five Blackpool trams on display including the only remaining example of Blackpool’s first electric tram from 1885, and a recently acquired ‘balloon’ tram from Blackpool’s vintage fleet which is now on display in the new ‘Century of Trams’ Exhibition.
As part of Blackpool’s celebrations for the 125th anniversary of trams, Crich Tramway Village will be sending a selection of trams to Blackpool during September.
