Tram Fleet

Douglas Head Marine Drive 1

This tram which ran on the Isle of Man is the oldest trolley-equipped tram at Crich, entering service in 1896, still within the experimental period in electric traction.


London Passenger Transport Board 1

LPTB 1 was built in 1932 and is now on display at the Museum.


Derby Corporation Tramways 1

On display in the Exhibition Hall Derby 1 dates from 1903 and was used for crew training prior to the opening of the electrified system in Derby where it ran for 30 years.


Blackpool & Fleetwood Tramroad Company 2

One of the ten original trams supplied for the Blackpool & Fleetwood coastal tramroad in 1898.


Blackpool Electric Tramway Company 4

Built in 1885 this is the oldest electric tram at Crich. On display.


Gateshead & District Tramways 5

Built by Gateshead & District Tramways in 1927, after 1951 ran on the Grimsby & Immingham Railway for British Railways.


Chesterfield Corporation 7

One of the original 12 trams built by Brush in 1904


Chesterfield Corporation Tramways 8

Built in 1899, Chesterfield 8 was one of the last horse trams built for normal passenger service.


Oporto 9

This trailer car from Portugal is the only vehicle in the collection which has been hauled by three different forms of traction: mules, steam and electric. It is also the oldest tram in the collection, dating from 1873.


Hill of Howth 10

Built in 1902 this tram operated on a short but scenic route north of Dublin and is the only Irish car in the collection at Crich. On display.


Grimsby & Immingham Light Railway 14

The Grimsby & Immingham line was laid by the Great Central Railway to link the new Immingham Dock with the town of Grimsby to carry dock labourers. On display.


The Sheffield Corporation Tramways 15

An 1874 horse tram, this was the first tram to carry passengers at the Museum in 1963 before electric traction commenced in 1964.


Dundee & District Tramway Company 21

This steam tram trailer entered into service in 1894 and was withdrawn in 1902 when it was used as an anglers' shelter before being rescued.


Glasgow Corporation Tramways 22

Built in 1922 and withdrawn from active service at the end of 1960, No.22 operated nearly four thousand miles at the Glasgow Garden Festival in 1988.


City & Royal Burgh of Edinburgh 35

This tram has operated in Edinburgh, Blackpool and Glasgow Garden Festival before being displayed at Crich.


Blackpool Corporation Transport 40

Built in 1926 Blackpool 40 became the last open balcony tram to operate in Great Britain.


Southampton Corporation Tramways 45

This was the first tram bought for preservation by enthusiasts, it cost £10 back in 1949.


The Sheffield Corporation Tramways 46

No. 46 was one of twelve single decker trams purchased for the opening of the electric tramways. Presently in our Museum Store and not on display.


Blackpool Corporation Transport 49

No.49 represents the complete development of the Blackpool Standard tramcar with enclosed balconies.


Johannesburg 60

Built in Preston in 1905, Johannesburg 60 starred in several film and TV productions.


Paisley District Tramways 68

Built in 1919, enclosed by Glasgow Corporation before being restored to its original condition.


Sheffield Corporation Tramways 74

After being sold to Gateshead, where it ran in much modified form until that system closed in 1951, Sheffield 74's lower deck survived as a suburban garden shed in the town. During its restoration at Crich it was fitted with an Edwardian Sheffield top deck.


Leicester City Tramways 76

On display in the Exhibition Hall Leicester 76 entered service in 1904 and was withdraw in 1947 before being brought to Crich in August 1960.


Newcastle Corporation Tramways 102

This tram was originally built in 1901 as an open-sided single decker. On display.


London County Council Tramways 106

Built in 1903, LCCT106 made its inaugural run at Crich in May 1983, exactly eighty years after the opening of the London County Council electric tramway to Tooting.


Blackpool Corporation Transport 166

Know as a "toastrack" car 166 was once used by the BBC as a mobile outside broadcast unit.

Leeds City Transport 180

Built by Brush in 1931, known as "Showboats" or "Horsfield"


Prague City Tramways 180

Constructed in 1905 this tram has enjoyed more press coverage than any other tram in the Museum’s prestigious Collection. In 1968 it ‘escaped’ from Czechoslovakia as Warsaw Pact troops were advancing, only hours away from the border being sealed.


Sheffield Corporation Tramways 189

This tram was placed in service in 1934 and was donated to the Tramway Museum Society after the closure of the line on which it ran.


Sheffield Transport Department 264

No.264 was placed in service in 1937 and operated right up to the last day on 8th October 1960.


Oporto 273

A Brill type semi-convertible tram.


Metropolitan Electric Tramways 331

Last of 5 experimental cars, entered service in London in December 1930. Sold to Sunderland in 1937.
