DR. WHO FANS CELEBRATE TARDIS RESTORATION

Dr Who fans gathered at Crich Tramway Village on Friday 21st April to celebrate the saving of the TARDIS, one of the last surviving Mark 2 Metropolitan Police call boxes.
After a fundraising campaign spearheaded by fans of the cult series, Crich Tramway Village has been able to restore the Police box, which originally stood in Ealing Broadway during the 1950s and ‘60s.
Weighing over two tons, the blue police box has been a feature at the Tramway Village since the ‘70s. However it is made from concrete and had started to crumble. Expert restorers have stabilised the structure and given it a new coat of blue paint, an exact match to the Time Lord's own TARDIS.
The police box looks quite at home in the Tramway Village period street with the trams rumbling past. Thanks to the support of Dr Who fans we are delighted to have been able to preserve this British icon and keep it on display for visitors.
It is still in use today as the telephone point for the Tram crews, though we are happy to allow visitors to peek in. I have to say it does look bigger on the inside!
The Dalek was kindly provided by Nigel Shaw from Ashbourne and Dr Who was played by Lee Barton from Taunton.
The TARDIS was restored by Ivor Parnham Building Services Limited.
