Double Award Success

Staff and volunteers at Crich Tramway Village are celebrating after being honoured with two awards; for marketing excellence and for their website.

The Tramway Village beat off stiff competition to win the Gold Award for Marketing Excellence at the East Midlands Tourism ‘Oscars’. The awards ceremony was held in Nottingham on 28 September with a keynote speech by Kell Ryan co-founder of the hugely successful Ryanair.

Receiving the award on behalf of Crich Tramway Village David Leon said, “The basis of great marketing is a great product and Crich Tramway Village consistently delivers a fantastic experience. This award reflects not just the effort we put into marketing, but is a recognition for all the staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to ensure our visitors have a great day out.”

The marketing award comes hot on the heels of another award, this time for the website www.tramway.co.uk. Crich Tramway Village won the bi-annual Heritage Railway Association website competition which recognises the best website amongst the UK’s heritage railways and museums.

The Judges praised the very clean appearance and excellent structure and navigation of the Crich website and were also particularly impressed by the comprehensive online library and database pages. Accessibility is also good, especially for text only browsers and hence screen readers for the visually impaired.

The Crich Tramway Village Board Member, John Shawcross, received the winners shield from Heritage railway Association President Dame Margaret Weston DBE at the Association’s AGM in Loughborough on 16 September 2006.
