New for 2006/07...
An Evacuee's Experience.
The role play begins as the children arrive at Crich, where they have been evacuated. They will be met by the billeting officer and chosen by their host families. The children explore the feelings and experiences of evacuees and are given the opportunity to handle a variety of original and replica WW2 artefacts.

To ensure that your class look and feel like real evacuees, group leaders will be sent Gas Mask and Gas Mask Box templates, parcel tags, Identity Cards and Ration Books for the children to bring with them. We also encourage everybody (including adults) to come in period costume.
Suitable for nursery, foundation or early years groups:
Story Time.
Hear magical and mythical tales of the creatures lurking amongst the woodland with storyteller, Tess Willoughby. Winding through the beautiful walk and eventually arriving at the labrynth, magical creatures will have been seen and new found fairy searching abilities will have been found. Perfect for children interested in meeting a troll..
Suitable for Key Stages 1 and 2:
Citizenship – Why do we Need Rules?
A fun look at what rules are, who creates them and why they are needed. the session explores everyday rules that the children follow in their lives and specific rules that must be observed at a working tramway. The session ends with role play that encourages the group to think about what rules must be followed on a tram.

Art and Design – What is Sculpture?
The children discover what sculpture is, what it does, what it is made of and who it is made by. The group will explore the Museum and Woodland Walk to hunt for different sculptures (we have quite a collection including some wooden carvings by local artist Andrew Frost) and think about what they are made of and why.

Victorian Workshop.
The session begins with our strict school mistress/master teaching a Victorian style lesson where the children can dress up and write on slates. The group participate in a toy handling session where they are encouraged to compare Victorian and modern toys, and finally they make a Victorian toy to take home.

Tram Time Line.
An interactive look at the history of the tram from horse drawn through to electric. The group have the opportunity to participate in role play and some children will be able to dress up.

Habitats.
Children will learn what a habitat is, what it does and who lives in it. They will also learn about food webs and chains. This is taught through the use of a number of fun activities which incorporate a tour around the Museum's Woodland Walk area.

A Sensory Adventure.
This session encompasses two special adventures in our Woodland Walk area with the emphasis on re-awakening children’s senses, sharpening perceptions and feeling at home with the natural world. Two adventures can be selected from the following selection: sounding out, eye in the sky, cocktails, micro trail, touches, colour palettes, artists palette and camera.
