What’s more, once you have paid to come in, your ticket is valid for a further 12 months (apart from Premier Event Days and Starlight Halloween) we believe that this offers fantastic value for money for families looking for a day out in Derbyshire.
Rita's Tearooms offers a variety of children’s meals and the Red Lion serves meals and snacks during the school holidays and busy event days and both have highchairs available. There are baby changing facilities in the Red Lion and Assembly Room toilets. We also have two large picnic areas, one on the outdoor play area and one situated along the Woodland Walk offering amazing views over the Derwent Valley.
We are an accessible Museum with smooth pathways through the granite setts suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs and lifts or ramps to all visitor facilities. Click here to see our Access Statement. You can even bring your dog along with you provided that they are kept on a lead at all times.
Children can let off steam in the Discovery Depot – a huge indoor play area with a soft ‘tram’ climbing frame and ball pit and separate soft play area suitable for toddlers, there are plenty of chairs where parents can have a break and lots of room for pushchairs. There is also an outdoor play area for older children.
Why not borrow one of our brilliant backpacks to get the most out of your visit They are full of activities to encourage you to explore the Woodland Walk with it’s fascinating Sculpture Trail as well as the Museum’s exhibitions. They are suitable for 3 – 8 year olds and are available from reception.
Older children and adults will enjoy our Jubilee Trail orienteering course. Maps are available from reception and can also be downloaded here. The course takes place mainly on the Woodland Walk, offering some magnificent views as you search for each post.
