Ride the World Cup Tram in the Derbyshire Countryside!

World Cup Tram
Crich Tramway Village, Derbyshire’s award winning family attraction is running a specially decorated ‘World Cup’ tram from Johannesburg to celebrate the World Cup and bring a little piece of South Africa to the Derbyshire countryside.

The tram contains all 32 nation flags in celebration of the FIFA World Cup being held in South Africa from 11th June to 11th July. Visitors to the Village will be able to ride on the specially decorated tram throughout the period of the World Cup*.

Johannesburg 60, a double-deck tram, was originally built in Preston, England in 1906 for export to South Africa where it ran until 1960. At first glance it looks like a typical British tramcar but closer inspection reveals bilingual signs in English and Afrikaans and larger opening windows. The tram was acquired by the Tramway Museum Society (TMS) in 1964 and shipped back to the UK via Portuguese East Africa and Hull and restored back to its former glory.
* The World Cup tram is not guaranteed to run every day but will be on display when not running
