Red Oktober - 24th October
Eastern Bloc vehicles from around the UK and overseas including Trabants, Wartburgs and Tatras, will be descending on Crich Tramway Village on Sunday 24th October for the annual Red Oktober Day.
The event will include parades of cars driving down the Tramway street alongside the trams, recreating an authentic scene from Eastern Europe prior to the fall of the Berlin Wall. Re-enactor groups portraying East German border guards, Russian soldiers and British soldiers of the period will be on duty. Revolutionary parades will take place at set times during the day.
The fact that Crich Tramway Village offers a fully operational tram service for its visitors will provide some excellent photo opportunities as the visiting Eastern Bloc cars drive through the cobbled street, weaving in and out of the vintage trams providing some spectacular open-air theatre. “
To complete the atmosphere the Red Lion Pub and Rita’s Tearooms will feature Eastern European dishes on the menu and will be serving German beer.
